KEY AREAS OF SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION

The science plan is focussed on providing tools for the New Zealand farming community and livestock industries to improve control of Johne’s Disease across the sheep, beef, deer and dairy industries.  Where possible, observations from overseas experience are incorporated to allow more rapid progress.


  The plan has 4 broad areas of investigation: 

DIAGNOSTICS
Improving and developing diagnostic techniques specifically for New Zealand to improve detection of the disease in livestock. MORE >>

Johne’s is a complex disease and there is much more we need to learn about the organism and how the infection behaves.

GENETICS
Current evidence suggests some animals are more resilient to infection than others.  JDRC is looking to genetic solutions for help in breeding Johne’s disease resistant animals. MORE >>
